Literacy Volunteers Looking to Recruit Tutors

BRIDGEWATER, NJ - The Literacy Volunteers of Somerset County will be holding an information session to learn more about becoming an LVSC volunteer adult literacy tutor.

The sessions will be held at the Franklin Township Library March 20 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m; the Hillsborough Library March 21 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.; and the Bridgewater Township Library March 22 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The organization is recruiting volunteer tutors to teach literacy skills to adult learners. They receive 15 hours of training in Basic Literacy and English for Speakers of Other Languages during five weekly sessions.

Tutors are then matched with an adult learner, and they usually meet once a week for tutoring sessions, often at a local library.

The spring tutor training class will be held on consecutive Thursdays, April 5, April 12, April 19, April 26 and May 3 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the PeopleCare Center in Bridgewater.
