New Police Officer Sworn in in Raritan Borough

RARITAN, NJ - Raritan Borough swore in Evan Vacchiano as the newest member of the Raritan Borough Police Department at the final council meeting of the year Dec. 20.

Vacchiano was sworn in as a probationary officer until he completes his training.

Vacchiano is a 2007 graduate of Morris Hills High School, and received a Bachelor's Degree in MDS studies from West Virginia University in 2012. He worked as a class I and class II officer for the Seaside Park Police Department from April 2013 until coming to Raritan.

Beginning in January, Vacchiano will attend the Monmouth County Police Academy as a waiver trainee. This additional training is required for officers who have class II PTC certifications in order for them to be named as full time officers.

In addition, Vacchiano will be assigned to a training officer, and will go through Raritan Police Department's nine-week field training program.

Raritan Police: Warren Man Arrested for DWI and More in Police Blotter

RARITAN, NJ - A Warren man was arrested Feb. 1 for driving while intoxicated following a motor vehicle violation, according to a report from Raritan Borough Police.

Wayne Krause, 68, was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and speeding after being pulled over on Route 22 West.

Krause was processed and released pending a court appearance.

County Holding 5th Annual 5K Race to Wellness

BRIDGEWATER, NJ - The Somerset County Employee Wellness Committee is partnering with EmPoWER Somerset for the 5th Annual 5K Race to Wellness and 1-mile Fun Walk for county residents March 24.

The event, according to a release, is being held rain or shine at 9 a.m. at Duke Island Park, on Old York Road.
