RARITAN, NJ - The Raritan Borough Council approved an ordinance Tuesday that eliminates the current recreation committee and creates two separate committees, a team sports committee and a community programs and events committee.
Raritan Mayor Charles McMullin has said that recreation was overworked and running “full tilt,” and they wanted to make a change to be able to offer more to residents.
Goals for community events, McMullin said, include possible concerts on the riverfront and a bicycle race for kids.
As for the team sports committee, McMullin said they have been looking to get soccer teams going, and possibly creating opportunities for cricket in the future.
The ordinance was first introduced at the January reorganization meeting, before being approved Jan. 24.
