RARITAN, NJ - With Rich Barolucci retired from the Raritan Recreation Department after 36 years, the borough council has named Al Bartocci as the replacement.

Bartocci will serve in the position through December.

According to Raritan Mayor Jo-Ann Liptak, Bartocci was previously the chairman of the Recreation Committee. She said it is up to the council whether they name a new director in January.

Liptak said she supported the promotion of assistant director of recreation Bob Andreychak to recreation director, as did two other members of the council.

“However, the other four council members wanted an interview process,” she said. “When Bob learned that he would need to interview for the rec director’s position and that he would not be promoted to rec director, he tendered his resignation immediately.”

Council president Don Tozzi declined to comment on the council’s decision.
