RARITAN, NJ - A woman suffering a medical episode crossed from the northbound to southbound lanes on Route 202 South April 21, causing minor injuries and extensive delays in the area, according to Raritan Borough Police.

According to a release from police Tuesday evening, officers responded to the area of Route 202 South and Ortho Drive at 12:14 p.m. Saturday for a motor vehicle accident with multiple injuries.

According to the investigation, Leann Simmons, 51, of Branchburg, was suffering from an active medical episode that caused her to cross into the southbound lanes of Route 202 from the northbound lanes. As her Ford Explorer crossed over the lanes, police said, she struck a Honda CRV head-on, which was driven by a 61-year-old woman from Hillsborough.

After that, police said, Simmons's vehicle struck a Jeep Liberty and a Chevrolet Traverse before coming to a stop.

The driver of the Honda CRV, and two passengers from the Chevrolet Traverse were taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset, in Somerville, for minor injuries. Simmons was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

An area of Route 202 South was closed, causing extensive delays in the area. The Bridgewater Police Department and State Department of Transportation assisted.
