RVCC Hosts Live Reggae Music and Discussion on Social and Political Impacts

BRANCHBURG, NJ - The public is invited to attend “Get Up-Stand-Up: Social Protest and Politics of Reggae Music,” featuring the critically acclaimed band, Universal Rebel, Monday, Feb. 20, from 1-2:20 p.m., at Raritan Valley Community College.

Universal Rebel’s lead singer is RVCC’s own Brandyn Heppard, an Assistant Professor of Philosophy.

The program, which will include a performance and discussion, will be held in the Nash Theatre on campus. The event is free of charge.

Universal Rebel’s music, a mix called “Reggae Dub/Luv,” stresses the universal themes of community, love and unity. The group has opened for such performers/groups as Kanye West, the Roots and Jimmy Cliff. The band is deeply influenced by artists such as Bob Marley, Phish and Common.

A question-and-answer session will follow the discussion and performance. The event is sponsored by the College’s Humanities, Social Science and Education Department; the Visual and Performing Arts Department; and RVCCArts.

Raritan Police: Warren Man Arrested for DWI and More in Police Blotter

RARITAN, NJ - A Warren man was arrested Feb. 1 for driving while intoxicated following a motor vehicle violation, according to a report from Raritan Borough Police.

Wayne Krause, 68, was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and speeding after being pulled over on Route 22 West.

Krause was processed and released pending a court appearance.

County Holding 5th Annual 5K Race to Wellness

BRIDGEWATER, NJ - The Somerset County Employee Wellness Committee is partnering with EmPoWER Somerset for the 5th Annual 5K Race to Wellness and 1-mile Fun Walk for county residents March 24.
