SOMERVILLE, NJ - The Somerset County Sheriff's Office is offering a $5,000 cash reward for information regarding a vehicle parked in front of Lincoln Hose Company No. 4 firehouse in Somerville before it struck a victim March 6.
The Sheriff's Office is looking for information that assists investigators with determining the identification of the owner and/or operator of the vehicle.
This reward is in addition to the $5,000 reward that was offered by the Somerset County Crime Stoppers Inc. on March 17.
According to a release from Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey Soriano, at about 9:25 p.m. March 6, Somerville resident George Kavanaugh, 75, was standing on the sidewalk in front of the firehouse on Warren Street when he was struck and run over by a light colored vehicle that backed out of the fire department parking lot.
According to a witness, Soriano said, the light colored vehicle had been idling and parked in the area of the front bay firehouse door between 9:15 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
Kavanaugh was a former fire chief, and he was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset where he died from his injuries.
