EDISON, NJ -- Despite being limited to three hits, the Bridgewater-Raritan softball team advanced with a 3-2 victory over J.P. Stevens in the first round of the Section 2, Group 4 state tournament on Thursday.

Julia Van Liew earned the victory in relief, pitching three scoreless and getting out of a bases-loaded jam in the seventh by striking out the last two batters of the game.

Grace Venuto singled in the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh for BRHS (11-14). Jalynda Mercado had two hits and two RBI for the Panthers.
