BRIDGEWATER, NJ - For the several months, over 200 Somerset County 4-H members and adult volunteers, some from Hillsborough, have been stripping fabric and braiding sections to create the World’s Longest Textile Braid, in hopes that it would be entered into the Guinness Book of World Records.

Well they did it!

To qualify, the braid had to be at least 800 meters,  the equivalent of one-half mile in length. It doesn't matter how thick the braid is just the length. At the present time, the 4-H Textile Braid measures three-quarters of a mile in length.

The official measurement will take place at the Bridgewater Commons Mall, Sunday, May 6th, at 1 p.m. in the Lower Level Lobby;  4-H members and their families will be there to help guide and protect the braid as it is unrolled.   As Guinness requires, a licensed surveyor will measure the braid and a textile expert will inspect it and the County Videographer will be tracking all the activity to send in to Guinness.
