Somerset County Among Top Places to Live in the USA

SOMERVILLE, NJ - Somerset County is a great place to live – one of the top 25 in the country and first among the top three in New Jersey, according to 24/7 Wall St. (

In its January 2017 list of “The Best Counties to Live In,” the online financial news and opinion company ranked Somerset County in 16th place, followed by Morris and Hunterdon counties at 17th and 18th, respectively.

“Once again, Somerset County is in the top tier of desirable places to live, work, raise a family and spend leisure time,” said Freeholder Director Peter S. Palmer.  “We’re proud of the many individuals and organizations that contribute to our outstanding quality of life.”

The 24/7 Wall St. website notes: “In Somerset County, New Jersey, 52. percent of adults have at least a bachelor’s degree, one of the highest shares of any county and well above the nationwide share of 29.8 percent of adults.

"Residents with a college education are more likely to be employed in high-paying industries. The typical household in Somerset earns an annual income of $100,667, 10th highest among all U.S. counties," the website continues. "Higher education and incomes are tied to better health outcomes, which may help explain Somerset’s 82.4 year life expectancy, more than three years longer than the national life expectancy at birth.”

Somerset County has received similar accolades in recent years. In 2014, the Movoto real estate blog ranked Somerset County fifth in its list of Best Counties in the United States.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ - A Piscataway woman was arrested for driving while intoxicated after she was stopped on Route 22 East Feb. 24, according to a report from Bridgewater Township Police.
