Somerset County Holding Annual 4-H Fair


BRIDGEWATER, NJ - The Somerset County 4-H will be holding the 70th anniversary of the annual fair Aug. 9, Aug. 10 and Aug. 11 at North Branch Park, in Bridgewater.

There are no admissions or parking fees, no midway or carnival rides. All information about schedules and more can be found at the information booth or online at

The fair will run from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on all three days, and there will be free shuttle buses running from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. from the Raritan Valley Community College, on Route 28.

Since 1947, the fair has continued its tradition of focusing on agriculture, while recognizing the accomplishments of the clubs and being a showcase for visitors to see a variety of 4-H projects in action. It will include twirling, go karts, rockets, magic, model airplanes, R.C. cars, model trains and more.

There will also be an Arts & Science Tent and Prep Tent, with exhibits, activities for visitors, demonstrations and performances.

Other tents will house a variety of animals, including dairy cows, beef, alpaca, horses, dogs, herpetology, sheep, goats, poultry, rabbits and small animals. Most of the animal tents have a petting srea and information about how to join the 4-H.

Food at the fair is provided by 20 non-profit organizations at affordable prices.

More than 1,000 kids are involved in the 4-H program, with more than 300 regular volunteers.

The 4-H Youth Development Program is part of Rutgers New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station. Programs are available to all youth, grades kindergarten through 13.

Bound Brook Man Arrested After Shoplifting from Macy's, Bridgewater Police Say

BRIDGEWATER, NJ - A Bound Brook man was arrested March 16 after being found with clothing from Macy's in the Bridgewater Commons Mall, according to a report from Bridgewater Township Police.

David Meladze, 26, was charged with shoplifting and possession of burglar's tools.
