BRANCHBURG, NJ - The Somerset County Prosecutor's Office and Branchburg Township Police are investigating the discovery of a deceased female on the center median of Route 22 near Route 28, in Branchburg, Wednesday.
According to Somerset County Prosecutor Michael Robertson, at about 1:22 p.m. Wednesday, Branchburg Township Police responded to a call for service reporting a deceased female on the center median. Officers responded and secured the area as a crime scene.
Robertson said detectives from the Branchburg Township Police Department, Somerset County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit, Somerset County Prosecutor's Office Crime Scene Investigations and Forensics Unit, investigators from the New Jersey Northern Regional Medical Examiner's Office and special agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation Franklin Township Field Office responded to the scene.
Detectives are following leads into the circumstances surrounding the death, and are attempting to identify the female. A post mortem examination is being performed by the Northern Regional Medical Examiner's Office to determine the cause and manner of death.
