All participants will be required to sign a release form before trying out for the team.

Somerset Patriots manager Brett Jodie and his coaching staff will be on hand to evaluate the players at the ballpark.

The Somerset Patriots have invited 20 players from tryouts to Spring Training over the past 17 years. Last year, pitcher R.J. Seidel was signed from the event and played with Somerset for the entire season.

Another notable tryout signee was infielder and fan favorite Scott Kelly, who has been with the team since 2014.

In 2012, the Somerset Patriots signed left-handed pitcher Roy Merritt from the tryouts. After three years in the Atlantic League (two in Somerset), Merritt helped the Somerset Patriots win the 2015 Atlantic League Championship, earning Playoff MVP honors.

“The tryouts give us the opportunity to discover a player who might not have fully been given a shot for some reason or another. We’ve been able to sign guys almost every year, and not just guys to fill our roster, but players that can be difference makers for us," said Patrick McVerry, president and general manager of the Somerset Patriots.

"The guys that joined us from the last few tryouts, are perfect examples of its success,” McVerry added.
