United Way in Bridgewater Honored by the County

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ - The Somerset County Business Partnership has recognized four companies, including one in Bridgewater, to receive the Economic Vitality Awards for 2015.

The United Way of Northern New Jersey, based in Bridgewater, was honored for its expanded presence, reach and impact in the county to improve the quality of life for residents since it reorganized in 2011, according to a release.

According to the release, United Way provides long term change for individuals and families who are asset limited and income constrained, focusing on education, income and health. It helps families and households in poverty build the foundation for a financially stable life.

United Way, the release said, provided free tax preparation to 958 households in Somerset County, saving local taxpayers an estimated $200,000 in tax preparation costs and putting more than $1 million in refunds back into the community.

The organization, the release said, also expanded its job advisor training program, helping people learn about the local labor market, job resources and more.

Also honored this year were FinPro, of Gladstone, Van Cleef Engineering Associates LLC, of Hillsborough; and Olde Mill Inn & Grain House, in Basking Ridge.

The Economic Vitality Awards will be presented at the Somerset County Business Partnership Annual meeting Dec. 14 in Somerset.

Registration is $90 for Somerset County Business Partnership members, and $130 for non-members if purchased by Dec. 8, as well as $105 for members and $145 for non-members after that.

Raritan Police: Warren Man Arrested for DWI and More in Police Blotter

RARITAN, NJ - A Warren man was arrested Feb. 1 for driving while intoxicated following a motor vehicle violation, according to a report from Raritan Borough Police.

Wayne Krause, 68, was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and speeding after being pulled over on Route 22 West.

Krause was processed and released pending a court appearance.
