BRIDGEWATER, NJ - Each week, two students at Bridgewater-Raritan High School will be honored as students of the week.
Students are chosen by teachers and staff in the high school.
These are the first students of the week chosen for the 2015-2016 school year.
The students of the week for the week of Sept. 28 are:
- Jodi Vadinsky - (nominated by Chris Levin) A new student signed into our class about two weeks after the school year began. It was clear the new student was having some doubts about their first assignment and some of the new material. Without being told anything about this, Jodi recognized the student's insecurity, went over to the student after class, introduced herself and offered to help. She also helped the student find their next classroom. I have been teaching for 10 years, and this was one of the most selfless acts of kindness I have seen. Jodi should be commended for an outstanding job and for setting an example that we should all try to follow.
- Shawn O'Kane - (nominated by Colleen Buzby) In the first weeks of school, Shawn O'Kane has stepped up as a leader in Earth and Space Science. He volunteers thoughtful responses regularly, smiles broadly as he includes others in his lab work and is always willing to lend a hand. Between 8th and 9th hour, I have to change classrooms, and Shawn is quick to hold the door and help carry materials back and forth at the start and end of the hour. His simple acts of kindness have made this new teacher feel welcome and his classmates feel encouraged to get involved.
Editors Note - Every week we will publish the BRHS Students of the Week. Congratulations to all those students recognized.
