SOMERVILLE, NJ – Two Pennsylvania-based track cyclists won first place honors at the men’s and women’s Main Street Sprint races Sunday night, a prelude to Monday's 75th Tour of Somerville.

James Mellen, the current men’s national sprint champion from Schenecksviile and Sophia Shuhay, a multiple-time junior gold medalist bested more than 40 riders racing in the 200 meter, multiple heat event before a crowd of hundreds that lined Main Street.

Mellen (Sprinter’s Edge Development), a recent 22-year-old Penn State biomedical engineering graduate, reached 50 mph as he crossed the line in his final heat against Ian Buss of Breinigsville, Pa. (Star Track) and Ian Whaley (Doylestown Bike Works) of Monroe, CT.

Shuhay (Star Track), a 15-year-old high school student, has won multiple national gold medals in her age category and has competed against international track riders, winning races in Canada. Second place in the women’s event went to Eva Burke (Sprinters Edge) of Macungie, Pa. Third Place finisher was Elspeth Huyett (NY6XX Team) of Emmaus, Pa.

Exhibition sprint racers for children were held prior to the elimination event.

Tour of Somerville racing concludes Monday with the 75th edition of the Unity Bank Tour of Somerville, featuring eight races for USA Cycling licensed riders of different skill levels beginning at 10:30 am. The featured multi-lap-event, the 50-mile Kugler-Anderson Memorial for professional and elite-level cyclists is set to roll off at around 3 pm, rain or shine.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ - Bridgewater Township Police are investigating a report of a theft of more than $2,000 from a vehicle parked at the Home Depot, in the Bridgewater Towne Center, according to a report.

A Hillsborough resident reported June 3 at about 5:58 p.m. that his vehicle had been burglarized while parked at the Home Depot. The theft occurred between 5 p.m. and 5:50 p.m.
