RARITAN TWP., NJ – There’s a new guy at the top.
Dr. Robert J. Cody is now the Interim President and CEO of Hunterdon Healthcare System, the corporate parent of Hunterdon Medical Center. He replaces long-time chief executive Robert P. Wise, who announced his retirement in May.
Cody brings a varied background to the job. He is a licensed cardiologist, but he also holds an MBA. He recently retired from the pharmaceutical industry.
Cody has held senior executive positions with Merck, Johnson & Johnson, and CVRx. His efforts in cardiovascular research were applied to early- and late-stage programs, bringing new therapies to large scale clinical study. He has also been directly involved with strategic planning, licensing and merger and acquisitions projects.
Cody has served on the board of Hunterdon Medical Center and Hunterdon Healthcare System for nine years and was previously Chairman of the System Board.
Before joining the pharmaceutical/medical device industry, Cody was Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan Medical School and Health System, where he was Associate Chief of the Division of Cardiovascular Disease, and Director of the Heart Failure & Transplant Management Program. In addition, he was a member of several University of Michigan Health System committees, including the Institutional Review Board, Operations Management Committee, Risk Management Committee and the Health System Advisory Group.
Prior to the University of Michigan, he held similar positions at Ohio State University Medical Center and Weil-Cornell Medical Center in New York City.
Cody received his Bachelors of Science degree from St. Joseph’s University, his Masters of Business Administration degree from University of Michigan and a Doctor of Medicine degree from Penn State University. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and a Cardiovascular Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School.
Cody recently received the Edward Bradley Medical Alumni Award of St. Joseph’s University. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, and the American Heart Association.
Cody lives in Hunterdon with his wife Linda.
“The board of trustees, senior leadership team, physicians, employees and volunteers will continue the promise we made when we opened our doors 65 years ago, to provide better and more efficient care, invest in the community’s medical needs and work to meet the expectations of our sophisticated consumers who deserve healthcare of the highest quality,” said Cody in a press release. “It was our promise then, it is now, and it will carry us well into the future.”
An executive search firm will assist HMC with identifying qualified candidates to serve as Hunterdon Healthcare's next President and CEO. Cody will continue to serve as the Interim President and CEO of Hunterdon Healthcare System until a replacement is hired.
