New Jersey Author Mitch Albom to Discuss New Book:  Finding Chika: a little girl, an earthquake, and the making of a family

“An Evening with Mitch Albom” will be held at The Pingry School and benefits The Brooke Healey Foundation — fighting pediatric cancer.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ - On Tuesday, November 5, New Jersey native and author Mitch Albom, will discuss his new book: “Finding Chika”— a poignant memoir that celebrates Chika, a young Haitian orphan whose short life would forever change his heart. Mitch is well-known for his previous books, “Tuesdays With Morrie” and “The Five People You Meet in Heaven.”

“An Evening with Mitch Albom” takes place in the Hauser Auditorium at The Pingry School in Basking Ridge, NJ and will benefit The Brooke Healey Foundation whose mission is to help families dealing with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) and other pediatric cancers, to support targeted DIPG research and award scholarships to civically active students.

Mitch’s presentation will be filled with funny and tender anecdotes and moving video and photos from his time with the amazing Chika. By the end, people will be moved by Chika’s courage, enlightened by the lessons she inspired, and feel empowered to help other suffering children in the world if the chance arises.

Stefani Healey, Co-President & Founder of the all-volunteer, non-profit Brooke Healey Foundation will also speak about her journey as it relates to Mitch’s story. Both 5-year-old Brooke and 7-year-old Chika passed away from DIPG, an inoperable, very aggressive tumor in the middle of the brain stem. DIPG primarily affects children and currently has a 0% survival rate.

What’s more, pediatric cancer research is greatly underfunded, and 84% of families dealing with it experience financial hardship. The Brooke Healey Foundation is fighting to change both of these facts and has raised over $1 million in the last five years.

“Mitch and I share an unspeakable bond. We have also experienced great compassion. This night celebrates our children and honors families. It will be about the resilience everyone needs at one time or another in our lives,” says Stefani. “We so pleased to present this inspirational event in an intimate setting with the chance to meet Mitch. Please join us and help make a difference.”
