What Lies Below: An Exploration of Bridgewater’s History through Modern Technology

“What Lies Below: An Exploration of Bridgewater’s History through Modern Technology”, a program of the Friends of Bridgewater History, will be held on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at Blessed Sacrament Church, 852 Newmans Lane, Martinsville at 7:30.

Dr. Richard Veit, of Monmouth University, will demonstrate how the use of LiDAR technology made it possible to determine the likely sites of the 1st and 2nd Middlebrook encampments, using this modern technology to see below the ground, as well as the fieldworks/fortification by the Spring Run Development.  He will provide information on the archaeological potential of the area.

Bridgewater’s own, Ross Rapoport, will talk about former Bridgewater resident Bob Boom’s 1970’s effort that explored the Miller Lane area and how adding LiDAR mapping has enhanced that work.  Aerial photographs combined with LiDAR data and hiking video shows greater detail and how much the area has changed since Boom ‘s undertakings in the early 1970’s.

There is no cost to attend the event.  The Friends of Bridgewater History is a non-profit corporation dedicated to preserving and protecting the Township’s rich history.  For more information, please email us at friendsofbridgewaterhistory@gmail.com.
