Catherine Schenone, currently a Freshman at Michigan State University, earned her Girl Scout Gold Award during her Senior year at Bridgewater Raritan High School. As an Ambassador in Girl Scout Troop 60137, she worked with the Van Holten Elementary School in Bridgewater to earn her award. Catherine constructed a fenced in Vegetable Garden and Learning Center for the special needs students attending Van Holten School. The Learning Center will provide students with an outdoor area for embracing nature and the opportunity for learning in a less restrictive environment. In addition, the students will cultivate their own vegetable garden and each year will have a year end celebration with fresh salad and vegetables from the garden. Catherine would like to thank a number of local businesses and organizations for their help and donations in making this possible including North Branch Reform Church, West Central District Elks Special Children's Committee, The Home Depot on Rt 202 and special thanks to Doug Capp of Maximum Landscapes, without whom, none of this would have been possible. Above, Catherine is pictured with Principal George Rauh and Special Ed Teacher, Lori Sieling.
