BRIDGEWATER, NJ - A Bridgewater resident took first place in the overall professional category in the Somerset County Board of Chosen Freeholders and Somerset County Cultural & Heritage division's fifth annual photo contest, "Show Us Somerset County Through Your Camera Lens."

Parvathi Kumar, of Bridgewater, won for "Autumn Beauty Naturar Park."

Joni McKelvey, of Raritan, won first place in the amateur category for historic sites for her photo, "Nevius Street Bridge."

"Congratulations to the winners," said freeholder director Shanel Y. Robinson. "We want to thank everyone who entered this year's contest. The judges had a tough time choosing the finalists since all of the entries were really stunning."

Residents submitted photos that highlighted the beauty and attributes of Somerset County, and judges selected up to three winners for professional and amateur photographs in the categories of community & events, historic sites, natural environment and recreational opportunities.

The two overall winners in the professional and amateur categories received a $100 honorarium. Photographers awarded first, second and third place won a $50 honorarium.

Kumar was the winner in the professional category, and Nikki Ferringo, of South Bound Brook, was selected as the overall amateur category for "Fall Focus."

All photographs will be featured online and in printed materials, which will be produced by the county and the Somerset County Business Partnership.
