SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ - Mayors from five Somerset County municipalities, including Bridgewater Mayor Matthew Moench, have announced the Mayors for Main Street Alliance, with a focus on advocating for a swift and safe reopening of businesses within their communities.
The municipalities involved are Bridgewater, Bedminster, Bernards, Bernardsville and Far Hills.
The municipalities, the release said, will coordinate advocacy to federal, state and county officials as businesses are still shut down because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"America was built on a spirit of entrepreneurship that is best represented by our small businesses across our communities," Moench said in the release. "We must stand up for our businesses, our business owners and their employees now."
The alliance will advocate directly to the governor's office for immediate action on behalf of residents, as well as asking county, state and federal officials who represent their residents to do more for the businesses and residents who are suffering now.
“Businesses throughout our communities continue to suffer because of the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting shutdown of the economy," said Bedminster Mayor Larry Jacobs. "The time has now come to move quickly and responsibly toward a reopening for our resident businesses.”
