Township Introducing Online Shopping Option for Shop Bridgewater Program

BRIDGEWATER, NJ - Bridgewater Township is moving forward on a new option through the Shop Bridgewater program with an online program for purchases.

According to township administrator James Naples, the program is a supplement to the Shop Bridgewater program, and it targets online vendors as opposed to just the brick and mortar shops.

“It is an enhancement to our program,” he said.

Through the regular Shop Bridgewater program, residents can use their cards in conjunction with a charge card, and the funds spent, based on what is given by each vendor, are turned back to residents in property taxes.

“At the end of this past year, our residents returned $39,000 back to themselves through the program,” Naples said.

This new agreement would be with Municipal Cards LLC.

Naples said residents would sign up for a debit card, and put their own money on it. Then, when they use the debit card at participating online vendors, they will get 1 percent back on property taxes.

“If you buy online or the vendor participates in this program, you get the money back,” he said.

The township would be committing to a two-year trial period with the program.
