BRIDGEWATER, NJ - Trader Joe's, in the Bridgewater Promenade, will still open its doors Friday morning despite a fire Thursday.
According to an alert from Somerset County, the store is still scheduled to open at 9 a.m. Friday. There will be a grand opening ceremony at 8:55 a.m., and the township will re-inspect the store before it opens.
Fire trucks were called to the scene around 11 a.m. Thursday.
According to Bridgewater Township Police, the manager of the store said workers were welding in the back of the store and the fire alarm was activated. When the Finderne Fire Department arrived, they found a fire in the rear interior walls.
Police said damage to the store was contained to the rear of the building, and consisted of insulation and sheetrock damage. A hole was cut into the roof, police said, to ventilate the building.
Responding to the scene to aid with the investigation were Bound Brook Fire Department, Green Knoll Fire Department, Manville Fire Department, Robert Wood Johnson Ambulance, Bridgewater Township Health Department and Bridgewater Township Fire Official.
