BRIDGEWATER, NJ - Van Holten Primary School first grader Isabel Rita recently sang on a Christmas album to help raise funds for Children’s Specialized Hospital and David’s Dream and Believe Cancer Foundation.
Rita sang on the song, “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.”
The album is part of a project called “Duets from the Heart,”(DFTH) and was created by Calista Quinn, of New Jersey, who has been featured on Radio Disney and “The Voice” in 2018.
The purpose of the project is to provide children battling chronic illnesses with an opportunity to experience the process of music production, while also giving back to organizations that help them live their best lives.
Rita was dubbed “Izzy Warrior Princess” when she was diagnosed with a spinal cord tumor when she was 1 year old, and continues to battle through the tumor and the side effects that come with it. She has been a patient at Children’s Specialized Hospital for five years, receiving physical and occupational therapies.
But according to a release, she is defined by her energy, joy of life and wisdom.
“For me, (DFTH) felt like I had accomplished something that I never thought I would do at this age,” she said in the release. “It made me feel really proud of myself.”
“My favorite part was getting to know everyone who helped put together the CD,” she added.
The album was produced by Grammy-nominated songwriter Desmond Dennis.
The CD or digital version is available for a minimum $10 donation online at www.DuetsfromtheHeart.org. All proceeds are split between Children’s Specialized Hospital and David’s Dream and Believe.
