BRIDGEWATER, NJ - The Bridgewater-Raritan High School's television club, BRTV, held its 5th annual NovemBeard competition to raise awareness and funds for prostate cancer.

BRHS staff members Dave Altemose, Tom Bourgault, Dave Evans, Dan Kavanagh, Steve Rubin and Scott Strungis grew beards throughout the month of November to try and claim the title of best beard. Each competitor was featured on BRTV shows throughout the month, and segments were shown to the community every Wednesday, while broadcasts went live to the communities.

The participating teachers also collected donations from BRHS staff and students throughout the month, raising a total of $600 that was donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation.

Evans won the title of Best Beard, while Strungis had the most donations collected.

BRHS media communications teacher and BRTV co-advisor Chris Black said that he and Scott Linzer, media communications teacher and BRTV co-advisor, believe the competition shows the wonderful things that can be done when the stakeholders of the district work together to achieve a common goal.

"The BRTV students involved in this competition should be commended for initiating the competition," Black said. "The six BRHS staff competitors should be commended for taking time out of their busy schedules to compete in this event, film segments for the competition and, most importantly, collect donations for a worthwhile cause."

In total, Black said, they raised $600 in donations for the cause.
