BRIDGEWATER, NJ - Literacy Volunteers of Somerset County is holding information sessions for those interested in becoming a tutor for adult learners.
The organization, based in Bridgewater, recruits volunteer tutors to teach literacy skills to adult learners.
The information sessions will be held Aug. 20 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Bridgewater Township Library, on Vogt Drive, and Sept. 4 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Hillsborough Township Library, on South Branch Road.
In addition, the organization is holding its tutor training sessions, with tutors receiving 12 hours of training in English for Speakers of Other Languages during four weekly sessions. Once they complete the training, tutors are matched with an adult learner.
Tutors generally meet with their adult learners once a week for tutoring sessions.
The fall training will be held on consecutive Wednesday evenings from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the PeopleCare Center, on Finderne Avenue. The dates are Sept. 11, Sept. 18, Sept. 23 and Oct. 2.
