RARITAN, NJ - At Raritan’s virtual council meeting Tuesday, the governing body moved quickly to extend the grace period for payment of property taxes to June 1.
The decision is consistent with Gov. Phil Murphy’s executive order, issued Tuesday and allowing municipalities to offer that extension from May 1 to June 1 if they choose.
The council vote was unanimous.
The executive order was signed to provide relief to homeowners struggling financially as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. It allows homeowners to pay their taxes a month after they are due without incurring any interest costs or penalties.
