BRIDGEWATER, NJ - On April 21 from 9 a.m. to noon, Somerset County YMCA and Hunterdon County YMCA will hold a free community event at TD Bank Ballpark, home of the Somerset Patriots. Healthy Kids Day®, the Y’s national initiative to improve health and well-being for kids and families, is an opportunity to encourage kids to ‘swing for the fences’ so they can imagine all that they can be, do and experience.

The Y’s cause is to strengthen community through nurturing children and teens, inspiring healthy living and providing all children with opportunities to reach their full potential.

“We believe that kids can achieve amazing things when they are properly supported. The theme of our Healthy Kids Day is ‘Swing for the Fences’ because at the Y, that’s just what we encourage kids to do—to seek to achieve their full potential,” said David M. Carcieri, president and CEO of Somerset County YMCA. “We are thrilled to host this year’s Healthy Kids Day at TD Bank Ballpark. It’s a chance to inspire more children than ever with healthy habits and a love of discovery and learning.”

This fun-filled morning will feature activities such as baseball-themed games, recipe ideas, arts and crafts, obstacle course, track and field, giveaways, safety information, STEM experiments, performances and opportunities to meet Somerset Patriot players and mascots—all designed to motivate and teach families how to develop and maintain healthy routines that last a lifetime.

“Each day at the Y, we support parents by providing a nurturing environment and enriching experiences that encourage children and teens to make good decisions,” said Bruce Black, president and CEO of Hunterdon County YMCA. “Healthy Kids Day is great way to get kids excited about healthy activities they can take home and do together as a family. When kids are healthy and motivated, there is no limit to what they can do.”

To encourage families to stay healthy, active and connected all year long, Somerset County YMCA and Hunterdon County YMCA are each holding a drawing for a complimentary one-year Y membership. All Y members and community members who attend Healthy Kids Day are eligible to enter the drawing.

“We are very excited to partner with the Y for Healthy Kids Day,” said Somerset Patriots President/General Manager Patrick McVerry. “Our ballpark will provide a great setting for kids and their families to enjoy a morning of activities and learning. We want to help our great partners at the Y deliver an important message of how children can grow to be healthy and happy individuals.”

The Y believes that healthy, connected families make the community stronger. As a leading charitable organization, the Y is offering Healthy Kids Day free to the community and all are invited to participate.
