Freight Train Derailment in Union; Raritan Train Station Service Suspended

UNION, NJ - A freight train derailed in Union at about 2:15 p.m. this afternoon, and Raritan Borough Police say train service is suspended at the Raritan Train Station until further notice because of it.

Preliminary details indicate that the train derailed past the Union Train Station.  According to Township of Union Business Administrator, the freight train contained 141 cars.  Eight were involved in the derailment.  Information on the contents of the freight cars is not yet available.

Green Lane is closed between Magie Avenue and Morris Ave.

According to New Jersey Transit's website, Raritan Valley Line service is suspended in both directions between Newark Penn Station and Cranford and also between Raritan and High Bridge due to a reported freight train derailment near Union Station.

Cross honoring is in effect with NJT Bus and private carrier bus service.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ - A Somerset woman was arrested for shoplifting Dec. 12 after being found with $394 worth of merchandise from Lord & Taylor, in the Bridgewater Commons Mall, according to a report from Bridgewater Township Police.
