BRIDGEWATER, NJ - Hundreds of current and retired police officers rode down Route 202/206 in Bridgewater May 9 during the first leg of the 22nd annual Police Unity Tour.

The four-day tour sees police officers riding their bicycles to Washington D.C. to pay tribute to slain officers and the families they left behind. The fifth day, May 13, includes a candlelight vigil and ceremonies at the National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial and Museum.

The riders nationwide help to heighten awareness of the dangers and hazards faced by law enforcement officers, honor those who have died in the line of duty and raise funds for the National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial and Museum.

The unity tour is held the same week in May every year to coincide with Police Week.

Recently retired Bridgewater Township Police Sgt. Scott Hobbs was part of the ride, and from the department were Officer Kurt Bernhard, Officer Patrick Knapp, Officer Brian Sujansky and Det. Russell Dunlop. Police Chief Al Nicretta and other officers were on hand off Route 202/206 cheering on the officers as they rode past.
