BRIDGEWATER, NJ - The Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School hosted the annual Big Nick Classic Feb. 27, with the game ending in a tie, 75–75, after two minutes of overtime.

Each year, 25 eighth graders are chosen to play against faculty, and a faculty cheerleading squad has a chance to cheer, as do the eighth grade cheerleaders.

The event is done in memory of Nick Klecz, a teacher and coach in the school district and for Bridgewater Recreation for more than 34 years. Klecz retired in 2000, and died shortly after that.

The family wanted to support a fund to give back to the middle school, and all money raised from the game goes toward purchases for the physical education program. In addition, four graduating seniors receive the Nick Klecz Scholar Athlete Award with an honorarium at the awards.
