BRIDGEWATER, NJ - Athletes of all ages took part in the Special Olympics May 4 at Bridgewater-Raritan High School’s Basilone Field.
Opening ceremonies included the presentation of awards to two outstanding volunteers.
Kyle Osterloh was honored with the 2019 Corinne Ann Hanko Memorial Achievement Award in recognition of his dedication and commitment to all aspects of Special Olympics of Somerset County.
Rich Rowe received the 2019 Marti and Larry Helwig Memorial Award in recognition of his outstanding support and dedication to Special Olympics of Somerset County.
The event also included a carnival with games and activities.
Many volunteers made the event possible, including Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School seventh graders Aidan and Daine, who said they enjoy volunteering because it is fun to give back to the community and help others.
BRMS seventh graders Camryn and Haley also volunteered handing out water and refreshments.
“I enjoy the emotions people get when you help them, and seeing them feel confident, like they’re going to have a good day,” Haley said.
“A smile goes a long way,” she said.
