SOMERSET, NJ -- The Bridgewater-Raritan football team righted the ship after two straight losses by defeating Franklin, 33-14, on the road Friday night.
And the Panthers did it after Franklin opened the scoring with a fumble return the length of the field to take a 7-0 lead. Peter Usewick scored on a 1-yard run and Michael Pastor kicked the first of his three extra-points as the Panthers (2-2) tied the game, 7-7, before the second quarter began.
Bridgewater-Raritan took a 14-7 lead when Gerrard Redden scooped up a fumble and returned it 28 yards for a TD in the second quarter. The Panthers extended the lead to 20-7 in the third quarter on Brett MacMath's 14-yard TD run.
After Franklin moved back to within one TD early in the fourth quarter, Alex Fromberg connected with Bryce Myers on a 5-yard TD pass. Fromberg capped the scoring late in the final quarter with a 10-yard TD pass to Nick Vizzoni.
Bridgewater-Raritan faces a tough test next week when the Panthers host undefeated Phillipsburg Friday night, Oct. 4.
