CAMDEN, NJ - Less than three weeks from the time Camden County surpassed 11,000 coronavirus cases, Freeholder Director Lou Cappelli on Monday said that milestone has already been exceeded.

Officials this evening said over the weekend an additional 249 new cases were confirmed - making the new total 12,136 cases since the outbreak began in March.

Meanwhile, 8 more deaths - belonging to five municipalities - were announced for a total toll of 575.

“As countries around the world begin to implement a new round of curfews, restrictions, and partial lockdowns, we have to use this opportunity to reduce the spread of COVID-19 before it’s too late," said Cappelli. "Please continue to wear a mask whenever you are around others, maintain social distancing whenever possible, and do not attend or host small indoor gatherings."

The Camden County health department has not issued new stricter guidelines, but earlier Gov. Phil Murphy said he expects other "hotspot" cities to follow in the direction of Newark.

"Additionally, one of the most impactful actions you can take right now is to work with our contact tracing team when they call. Our team will not share your personal information with the public or other agencies," Cappelli said.
