CAMDEN, NJ — A 22-year-old Camden man was charged Thursday in the fatal shooting of a Merchantville man, the Camden County Prosecutor's Office announced Friday.

Anderson Diaz was charged with murder in the Jan. 11 shooting of Michael Edwards, according to Acting Camden County Prosecutor Jill Mayer and Camden Police Chief Joe Wysocki.

He was also charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, authorities said.

Officers responded Saturday to the 500 block of Pfeifer Street at approximately 12:54 a.m. on a ShotSpotter activation. When they arrived, officers said they found Edwards lying unresponsive on the 400 block of Pfeifer Street after having suffered from apparent gunshot wounds,

He was taken to Cooper University Hospital and pronounced dead at approximately 2 a.m.

As of Friday evening, Diaz was being held in the Camden County Jail for an unrelated matter — pending a pretrial detention hearing.
