CAMDEN, NJ — Camden County College's coronavirus test site, which has worked to prioritize first responders and first opened in mid-April, will increase its hours of operations starting Tuesday.

Freeholder Director Lou Cappelli said nearly 30% of the more than 6,000 county cases are currently known to stem from healthcare workers, other first responders, as well as essential work personnel.

“The need for testing continues to be vital, and we want to make sure everyone working in an essential capacity — from the EMT answering calls to the grocery store clerk stocking shelves — has the ability to come to the site,” Cappelli said. "This initiative, combined with social distancing and other mitigation factors, will help us break the back of this virus.”

“Jefferson is committed to improving the lives of our community members,” said Brian Sweeney, Interim President, Jefferson Health New Jersey. “By partnering with the Camden County Freeholders to open and provide clinical support for this drive-through COVID-19 testing site, we continue to make a direct impact in the lives of frontline workers in the battle against coronavirus. By taking care of those who are taking care of others, our healthcare organization will help ‘flatten the curve’ of infection.”

To get tested, you need to have symptoms and other necessary criteria, and have received a referral for testing from a medical provider.

County officials said others that qualify for priority testing: grocery/food stores, pharmacies, medical supply stores, gas stations, healthcare facilities, and ancillary stores within healthcare facilities, supply chain drivers, utility employees and civil servants.
