CAMDEN, NJ — The Salvation Army Kroc Community Center is marking a milestone this Saturday and invites the community to join in on the party.
KrocFest, held at the 1865 Harrison Ave. location, will celebrate the center's fifth anniversary of service to Camden and the surrounding region with a free, family-friendly event.
Since its opening in 2014, the Kroc Center has welcomed nearly 1 million visitors and directly served more than 20,000 individuals each year. A $59 million combined capital and endowment grant from the late Mrs. Joan Kroc, widow of McDonald’s founder Ray Kroc, helped make the facility a reality, as well as the support of hundreds of local donors.
Running from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the festival will feature live performances, barbecue, and a number of activities for all ages, including an obstacle course and arts and crafts. Attendees can enter the touch-a-truck competition, take part in a community mural, check out animal shows, and save memories in the photo booth.
“We are blessed to have the opportunity to gather as a community to celebrate such a pivotal milestone for our organization,” said Major Terry Wood, Salvation Army Kroc Administrator. “We are so proud to be a part of the Camden community — as we reflect on how far we have come, we also look to the future with much excitement.”
The event is presented by New Jersey American Water, and put together through the efforts of a host of local partners: Camden County, the Camden County Police Department, Camden County Pop-Up Library, Camden Enrollment, Camden Monarchs, Camden Sophisticated Sisters, Center for Aquatic Sciences, the City of Camden, Cooper’s Ferry Partnership, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, Kingsway Church, Mastery Schools, Millennium Skate World, Pinnacle Parkour Academy, Quattro Bassi Tuba Quartet, Rutgers-Camden Athletics & Recreational Services, Rutgers-Camden Center for the Arts, The Salvation Army Kroc Center Philadelphia Jazz Orchestra, Thomas/Boyd Communications, Tri-State K-9 Crisis Response Team, and Wells Fargo.
