WEST DEPTFORD, NJ—A new Amazon Robotics fulfillment center in Gloucester County could mean hundreds of full-time jobs for Camden residents.

The 650,000-square-facility for the online retail giant is located just 15 miles away from the City of Camden in West Deptford. It is expected to open this fall and bring more than 2,000 new, full-time jobs to South Jersey.

On Friday, Amazon officials invited local media to tour the massive building, showcasing the many robots that will be used to fulfill orders when the building is operational and optimized for the upcoming holiday season.

Full-time employees at Amazon receive comprehensive benefits on Day One of employment, maternity and family benefits that offer up to 20 weeks of paid leave and a 401k retirement plan with a 50 percent match.

Amazon also offers its full-time employees the opportunity to participate in its nationally-recognized "Career Choice" program. The program pre-pays 95 percent of tuition for employees to go back to school in fields that are in high demand, such as information technology and commercial driving. Classes are taught onsite at the fulfillment center by professors from local county colleges.

“This is a great opportunity for Camden residents,” said Rachel Lighty, spokesperson for Amazon, during the media tour.

Over the next couple of weeks, Amazon will be holding hiring events in the area — including one on Wednesday, Aug. 29 at 500 Pine St from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Those interested in attending the hiring event, or others in the area, can fill out an application at www.workatamazonfulfillment.com.

The new facility is the first Amazon Robotics fulfillment center in the Camden area, and the ninth fulfillment center in the state. The building can fit 30 football fields inside and features 12 miles of conveyance.

In New Jersey, there are more than 90,000 businesses using the Fulfillment by Amazon network, and millions using it worldwide. More than $120,000, to date, has been donated to charities in New Jersey by Amazon through its Amazon Smile program.
