CAMDEN, NJ — The Virtua Health & Wellness Center – Camden, which opened in January, received the "New Good Neighbor Award" from the New Jersey Business and Industry Association (NJBIA) at the group's 59th annual Good Neighbor awards dinner.

The accolade goes to outstanding economic development projects in New Jersey, according to the NJBIA, which held its ceremony last month.

It recognizes organizations “that make New Jersey a better place to live and do business,” said Michele Siekerka, president and CEO of the NJBIA. “This competition showcases the best of the best who invest in communities, create jobs, and improve lives.”

Debra Moran, Virtua’s vice president of community-based services, said the center's creators were thrilled to receive such meaningful recognition.

That team also includes Tyler Conley, business development engineer for Turner Construction; Emma Leach, designer for Stantec; Joan Gray, assistant vice president of ambulatory services for Virtua Camden; and Carlos Torres, business development manager for Turner Construction.

“When we designed this facility, we worked very hard to ensure it would meet the community’s needs— including seeking input directly from Camden residents,” she said. “The 'New Good Neighbor Award' is wonderful validation of Virtua’s heartfelt efforts.”

The Virtua Health & Wellness Center is a 34,500-square-foot addition to the healthcare system's longtime campus at Mt. Ephraim and Atlantic avenues. It houses physician offices, physical therapy and rehabilitation, behavioral health services, and a dental center, among other services.

The facility is designed to welcome the surrounding community and serve as a “good neighbor,” Moran said. Examples of this shown in its structuring include a community room in the facility, prominetly located at the corner of the building for high visibility and easy access, and the exterior design, which incorporates the look of other Virtua facilities while also connecting to the city’s existing architecture.
