CAMDEN, NJ — As of Sunday afternoon, 46 additional COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Camden County — with a total of 163 patients having tested positive so far and one person dying due to complications from the virus.

County officials said they will provide an update on the individuals who are hospitalized on Monday.

“We are starting to see an uptick in new cases based on more widespread testing throughout the county, this uptick does not mean our social distancing efforts aren’t working, but that residents now have more access and opportunity to get tested,” said Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli.

The county announced 25 cases Sunday and 21 on Saturday.

Part of the count includes three additional positive patients in the City of Camden — making the current total at least eight.

“I have no delusions about this pandemic ending in the near future or that our bold efforts are in vain to give our medical professionals the time to find medication and a vaccine for this insidious virus,” Cappelli added. “There is only one way to break the back of this thing and win the war - to ensure we are staying home and not spreading the virus to our friends and loved ones. Again, I want to thank everyone who has been staying home and is complying with county, state and CDC guidelines.”

On Saturday, Camden County also extended its state of emergency declaration to be in effect indefinitely, "keeping county offices closed until a safe end date has been determined by the Camden County Health Department."

Officials advise the public to call 911 solely for emergencies, and refer to a 24-hour hotline at 2-1-1 or 1-800-962-1253 for coronavirus-related questions. Information is also available at covid19.nj.gov/.

Trace investigations for the cases are currently underway.
