CAMDEN, NJ — Three additional people have died in Camden County due to complications linked to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), including the first fatality in the city of Camden.

The most recent deaths as of Tuesday evening are a woman in her 50s from the city of Camden, a woman in her 90s from Cherry Hill and a man in his 60s from Winslow Township.

"My prayers and thoughts on behalf of the city go out to the individual, their family and the individuals that we have lost to this vicious virus," Camden Mayor Frank Moran told TAPinto Camden. "This is serious...we have a lot of common sense folks that are heeding my call [to stay home] but there are also people in the streets that are senseless. This is killing people. I'm pleading with you, get off the street, stay home, don't put yourselves and your families in danger."

The Camden County Department of Health confirmed Tuesday evening that the death toll in the county stands at six, and 242 people have tested positive so far (41 more than Monday).

In the City of Camden, four additional cases were announced today. There are at least 16 in the city thus far.

Moran said he has not yet spoken with the family of the Camden woman who died due to the virus.

He will provide more city updates, as he has been doing, via Facebook this evening.

“It does not get easier announcing these figures each day," said Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli as the county announced new cases. "We are tremendously saddened to have heard that three more members of the Camden County community have lost their lives to this horrible virus, and we are sending our sincerest condolences to the families and friends of those who have passed.”

A new testing site, the first time residents will be able to walk-up to be tested, will open in the city on Wednesday.

“As more of our residents gain access to testing, the number of confirmed cases will continue to rise, however we know that these numbers would be much larger if not for the community’s embrace of social distancing and stay-at-home measures," Cappelli said. "We need everyone to continue to take this threat seriously, even as these long weeks at home begin to take their toll. If we all do our part, we will emerge from this stronger and more united than ever.”
