CAMDEN, NJ — A third of known coronavirus cases in Camden County — which stands at 6,375 as of Tuesday — belong to first responders including healthcare workers, employees of “essential” businesses and frontline emergency personnel.

Caryelle Lasher, Communicable Disease Unit Supervisor, on Tuesday stressed the importance of these individuals taking measures at home.

“We’ve identified over 150 addresses with multiple cases…four or more,” said Lasher, during a virtual press briefing at Camden County College’s Blackwood campus. “We’ve reached out to them and what we’re learning is its a lot of spread from these frontline workers to the family.”

Over the weekend, Camden County surpassed 300 positive coronavirus patients (total of 304).

The caseload jumped 122 cases on Saturday, 25 on Sunday and another 78 on Monday - with the county health department no longer reporting figures over the weekend/holidays.

The city of Camden has the most cases of any municipality at 1,887 — 1,000 more than the runner-up Cherry Hill at 850.

“It's been a long torturous road, and hopefully some day soon we will be able to report 0 deaths on a daily basis…unfortunately we’re not quite there yet,” Freeholder Director Lou Cappelli said.

In more promising news, 98 percent of the individuals known to have contracted the virus are either fully recovered or recovering at home. Also, more than half of the county’s 56 long-term care facilities, where at least 224 of the deaths trace back to, did not report new cases over the past week.

“[It is] promising, and we hope to see these trends continue,” said Lasher.

Cappelli continued to implore all county residents to seek testing, saying the information pertaining to the pandemic's impact on the county is critical to response efforts.

Below is a case breakdown as of Tuesday. More details will be available on the county website:
