CAMDEN, NJ — The third week of remote learning for Camden students, teachers and staff during the COVID-19 pandemic will take a brief pause on Good Friday as Spring Break gets underway.

Although students will have a week off per usual, the district assured Friday that despite initial communication to-go meals will indeed still be available for anyone in the district who needs them.

“Although our school buildings are closed and how we learn will look different, it doesn’t change our district’s mission of ‘Putting Students First,’” said Camden Superintendent Katrina McCombs. “We are committed to ensuring our students have access to the resources they need to be successful. We will get through this together.”

Spring break will run from April 10 to April 17. A list of meal sites and the schedule is available below.

McCombs also noted that the district has secured funding to acquire laptops for students grades K-12. District officials said additional information on laptop distribution will be shared in the next few weeks.

At the moment, virtual learning documents are available through Class Dojo and Google Classroom. Students, who do not currently have access to the internet or the necessary technology, can obtain printed learning materials by contacting their teacher.

The Camden City School District (CCSD) has compiled a list of frequently asked questions on its site.

Among them, what would happen in the event of a district-wide outbreak?

“School district officials cannot officially call and/or determine that there is an outbreak. If there are sick students and/or staff in the district, local health officials will notify the New Jersey Department of Health and the Center for Disease Control,” the CCSD says online. “These state and federal agencies will make the final determination.”

For the time being, McCombs continues to strongly urge social distancing and staying home to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
