CAMDEN, NJ — As Camden families prepare to select which high schools their eighth-graders will attend, two organizations are doing their part to ensure every student and parent has a full understanding of their options.
In partnership with Camden Enrollment, Parents for Great Camden Schools is inviting students and parents to register for the Camden City High School Bus Tour. Until Dec.17, participating eighth graders and parents can take weekly all-access tours of seven Camden district and charter schools during the school day, where they’ll hear directly from high school students and staff about what each school has to offer.
Separate tours are available for parents interested in learning more about their child’s high school options. Shirley Irizarry, community outreach manager for Parents for Great Camden Schools, said her organization partnered with Camden Enrollment to give parents more power in the decision-making process.
“At the end, they feel they make the best choice for their student based on the programming that’s available, how their needs are going to be met so that they’re set up for success beyond high school,” Irizarry said. “If they choose the right high school based on what they want to pursue, that puts them on a path toward college or wherever they want to go next.”
Irizarry added that the tours provide the transparency that empowers parents to make choices without having to rely on word-of-mouth or school reputation. Parents will be able to experience high school classrooms and hear firsthand knowledge from other parents whose children are attending a given high school.
All tours meet at 8:45 a.m. in front of the starting-point school assigned to each tour. To register and view the tour schedule, visit GreatCamdenSchools.com.
