New Jersey Date Night is a series on NJ Flavor by relationship writer Craig Rogers.
As we near three months of pandemic containment, we can see that the world is slowly opening back up.
While we still don’t know when we’ll have indoor seating, New Jersey couples and singles can approach restaurant’s open windows and walk away with a tasty treat. Of course, most New Jersians with a sweet tooth know exactly what this means: ice cream!
Get ready for a New Jersey Date Night that takes window shopping to delicious level!
Love in your Tummy
When you walk away from the window at Yummy you’ll know exactly why its name is spot-on. Located in Garwood, this ice cream shop offers unique frozen treats and tasty beverages.
Your thirst for freedom will be quenched by their pitaya lemonade (infused with pick dragon fruit) or their Holy Matcha (a double espresso, milk and matcha green tea). If a shake is more your speed, check out the Samoa Cookie Shake made with Girl Scout cookies.
You and your date will have lots of choices for blended ice cream, including the Yabba Dabba Doo with Fruity Pebbles and the Sangria Summerfruit.

Vincent’s Homemade Ice Cream in Mount Holly has a lot happening on his side of the open window. If your guess is making ice cream from scratch, you’d be right!
With delicious flavors like chocolate peanut butter cup, banana surprise and apple pie, all you’ll need is to choose a cone or a cup. Don’t miss the soft serve in vanilla and chocolate. Be sure to check out Vincent’s homemade water ices, including root beer, sour apple and Bada Bing Cherry.

The Beetles sang a song about strawberry fields and you’ll hit a high note when you and your date visit Strawberry Fields Frozen Yogurt.
Located in Morristown, you’ll find the choices are immense and only outnumbered by the choices of toppings. The 15 frozen yogurt flavors include classic chocolate, cookies and cream, blueberry acai and green apple.
Their 26 toppings range from flax seed to blueberries — you really can’t go wrong in creating your own made-to-order frozen treat!

When One Window Opens
When it comes to living a post stay-at-home life, we’re not all the way back to normal but we can see that the end is within reach. The window with the view of the last three months is closing and in doing so we’re discovering that with each step forward we take, the bad was an only for now moment. The direction we’re facing leads to a destination sure to be better than where we’ve been.
Same thing can be said about those experiencing the end of a relationship. The aftermath of a breakup is murky at best, painful at worst but with each step forward we discover better days leading to a brighter future.
The key to surviving both is to keep up the faith, keep walking forward and when you see the open window be sure to take advantage of what’s on the other side.
