Nothing beats a cool, creamy dessert on a hot summer day. We’ve got five frozen treats you need to try, including a customizable recipe for no-churn ice cream that starts with two simple ingredients.

Which one will you make first?

Affogato: A yummy Italian pick-me-up, affogato is traditionally a scoop of gelato “drowned” in a shot of espresso. If you don’t have an espresso maker, you can use regular strongly brewed hot coffee, instead. Try it with vanilla, chocolate or hazelnut gelato or ice cream.

Black/Brown Cow: Root beer floats are great, but isn’t everything better with chocolate?

There’s a lot of argument over what exactly a brown cow or a black cow is. Some swear that it’s made from root beer with chocolate syrup stirred in, topped with vanilla ice cream. Or you can skip the syrup and top it with chocolate ice cream. Or maybe it’s made with cola, instead of root beer.

No matter what you call them, these floats are cool, sweet, chocolaty and creamy.

Ice Cream Cupcakes: Love ice cream cake? Skip the frosting and top your cupcakes with a scoop of ice cream, instead, for a single-serving version of the classic.

Candy Bar Sundae: Unwrap and melt your favorite candy bar (we like Snickers or Milky Way) in a cup in the microwave, then pour it over ice cream for a decadent sundae.

No-Churn Homemade Ice Cream: The trick to making ice cream without an ice cream maker? Folding in fluffy whipped cream.

For the base, you need a 14-oz. can of sweetened condensed milk. If you like, stir in a flavoring, such as 1 tsp. vanilla extract or almond extract.

With a mixer, whip 2 cups of cold heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Using a spatula, fold the whipped cream, 1 cup at a time, into the milk mixture. Gently stir until the whipped cream is completely incorporated.

If you want to stir something in, such as lemon zest, chopped cherries or mini chocolate chips, do it now.

Freeze until firm, about 4 hours.
