CAMDEN, NJ — A 19-year-old from Camden has been charged in the stabbing death of a South Amboy man, Middlesex County authorities announced Wednesday.
Bruce Matthews was charged with first degree murder and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose in the third degree in the death of Robert Spiegel, 32, of South Amboy on May 29.
He was arrested Tuesday, Middlesex County Acting Prosecutor Christopher Kuberiet, Chief Darren LaVigne of the South Amboy Police Department, and Chief Christopher Trucillo of the New Jersey Transit Police Department said.
At the end of May a little after 9 p.m., South Amboy Police responded to the area of the South Amboy Train Station, located at 140 N Broadway, and found the victim laying on the ground with multiple stab wounds," the Middlesex prosecutor's office said. "The investigation determined that Matthews attacked the victim and then fled the scene."
Spiegel was pronounced dead at the scene at roughly 9:37 p.m.
Kuberiet said the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office and the Camden Metro Police Department assisted in tracking down Matthews.
