CAMDEN, NJ - The fatal shooting of a 32-year-old man on Jan. 2, announced by the authorities on Thursday, marks the city’s first homicide of 2020.

Acting Camden County Prosecutor Jill Mayer and Camden County Police Chief Joe Wysocki said the police department responded to a ShotSpotter activation in the area of the 800 block of South 7th Street in Camden at approximately 6:44 p.m.

“On arrival, officers found the victim, Joshua Beatty of Camden, lying on the ground suffering from an apparent gunshot wound,” the announcement said.

Beatty was treated at Cooper University Hospital but later died due to his injuries. He was pronounced dead this past Sunday at around 12:12 p.m.

The Camden County Medical Examiner ruled Beatty’s manner of death as a homicide on Wednesday.

No arrests have been made and an investigation is ongoing.
