As most of you who know me have discovered, I am a burger fanatic. I love my charcoal-grilled burgers served medium on the well side. These scrumptious delights are grilled slowly on our aged, outdoor grill that has been a part of our family for many years, or we enjoy them at favorite restaurants.
With apologies to esteemed Star Ledger Food Critic, Munchmobile Food Writer, and Author Peter Genovese, who released his list of New Jersey’s favorite Burger places, and is always in search of the “Best” Jersey Eats, he did not include my favorite Burger place on his “official” Burger list.
However, if you, or any of your friends, or colleagues, are searching for a perfectly prepared Burger, may I suggest you call and make a reservation at Gladstone Tavern in Gladstone, New Jersey. It's located in an 1847 restored colonial farmhouse. Simply park your car in their official parking lot and become part of the conversation and ambiance, taking place on their huge, front porch.
Owned and operated by Executive Chef Tom Carlin, the Gladstone Tavern prides itself on an exceptionally friendly, well-trained staff, excellent food and service, a fine bar, and an enormous outdoor patio where folks and their friends and family may enjoy dining under the stars.
As this is Jersey Peach season, guests receive menus explaining the location of the delicious peach farms featured in their special dishes. For example: The Jersey Peach Lunch 2015, begins with suggestions: From the Bar: Enjoy a Frozen Peach Vanilla, rum creme de peche, honey, lemon, ($9.50), or Maggie’s Farmhouse Peach Ale, Terrapin, Ga., ($6.00).
For dinner the four of us devoured our delicious Tavern Burgers prepared with House Ground Beef, choice of cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, and hand-cut, baby Idaho fries, ($12). Just so crispy and delicious, you simply could not stop devouring every last bite.
Dessert featured everything peachy. Not only did we eat every last bite of Tom Carlin’s house-prepared peach sorbet, we also consumed his Peach Honey Pie, a baby pie filled with local peaches, a sauce from local plums, granola crumble, and would you believe vanilla bean ice cream? ($8).
The Menus at Gladstone Tavern feature something for everyone to enjoy. Definitely not located around most of our neighborhood corners, it is truly worth the ride. Treat yourself and your family to lunch or dinner at this friendly, congenial restaurant. You’ll have money to spare, and you’ll leave with a smile on your face.
